Welcome to the website for Dorset's Youth Climbing Academy

About Us

The academy was set up to introduce young people to the sport of rock climbing and help aid them in the difficult transition from indoor to outdoor climbing. We meet and train once a week indoors throughout the year and organise competitions, meets and days out on the rock in the summer. We run the academy across Dorset and welcome climbers of all abilities and backgrounds.

Each training session has a focus and helps young climbers work towards award schemes which develop their skills, technical competance, knowledge and awareness, the key qualities they will need to pursue the sport in the future. All sessions are run by qualified instructors.

Getting started

If you are keen to sign up and get involved, the process is simple!

Firstly, use the ‘Contact Us’ link to send us an email with your child’s name, age and area they are based in. We’ll then arrange a free taster session at a venue near you. You will then need to complete a parental consent form and bring it to the first session(Download the form here).

If your child enjoys the taster session and is keen to join then it’s an annual membership fee of £10 which includes BMC (British Mountaineering Council) club membership. DYCA is a fully registered BMC club and operate at all club venues during term time only. Weekly sessions are charged at £7 per week, payable as half termly blocks. Cash and cheque are accepted methods of payment. Please make cheques payable to Dorset Youth Climbing Academy.

That’s it, hope to see you soon!

Shaftesbury DYCA satellite offers exciting new climbing opportunities to girls aged 11-18 years old

By 2017 every secondary school in the UK will have satellite club provision offered.
